Parting out a 93 850GLT - What should I keep?

Post by utvol1984 »

I was able to pick up 93 850 GLT a few months back for $400. It had been sitting for about a year - the guy said it just quit running one day and he didn't want to fool with it. Turns out it has a blown head gasket. Anyway I plan to keep a bunch of stuff from the interior and probably all four doors to use on my other (running) 850 GLT. This running 850 GLT has 141,000 miles on it and I feel sure I'll need parts as it continues to age and I'm trying to figure out which parts I'm most likely to need that I could keep from the junker 850.

I was thinking about keeping the engine and trans but the car does have over 170,000 miles on it and I don't have a lot of storage space. On the other hand I know how expensive those things are - do you think the engine/trans are worth keeping? Other parts I should hang onto? Thanks again for any advice - this is an awesome site and very helpful to me already.

Keep all of the engine electronic parts (o2 sensors, ECT, MAF, ECU, TPS, flywheel sensor), ABS modules, all electrical relays, wheel sensors, etc.. I wouldn't bother with the engine if I were you... maybe try and sell it as a rebuildable unit on ebay.... get a $100 out of it.
