2001 V70 T5 Manual Tranny - Multiple Issues

Post by spudz6975 »

So I am reaching out to a much more knowledgeable group that myself. I am having multiple issues with the car. The problems seem related, but maybe not, so I am going to list them in hopes of some advice:

1)Blinker Switch does not activate for left-turns (it clicks, but no blinky-blinky)
2)Brake Failure/Service Required/STC/ABS/Pull Over Immediately/etc...
3)Rear brake light out
4)odd throttle response...aka...revving and accelerating where somewhere around 3500rpms the car "catches" for lack of a better term. Its not like the boost is kicking in, it already has, but as it is accelerating and speed/rpms are increasing, it just hiccups... The jerkiness usually coincides with the setting off of the dashboard Christmas tree lights but not necessarily always. If I completely let off the throttle, its pretty jerky, rather than just a smooth deceleration. Sometimes just a "bump" might produce the same series of events.

So now the rest of the story...This seems to happen more when it's hotter'n hell outside. It almost made it all winter no problems. Over the winter I replaced my brakes and installed a new clutch kit thinking it would fix my issues. Oh well. So all the codes were cleared, then about a month or so ago, it came back...here we are? Records say the ETM was fixed in the recall. I'm not original owner, but have pretty good records. Could it have gone bad again? Had wheel sensors tested, and they came back good (accord to mechanic).

Or maybe I am just asking for too much from a car with 190K that is 13 years old. Any thoughts?

Oh....one more thing...now the alarm goes off at the drop of a hat too...thunder sets it off. Went off to day for no apparent reason in the parking lot?

1)Blinker Switch does not activate for left-turns (it clicks, but no blinky-blinky)

Replace the turn signal assy. they go bad. Used is fine. The part is not very expensive and it's not too hard to replace.

2)Brake Failure/Service Required/STC/ABS/Pull Over Immediately/etc...

Need codes from VIDA

3)Rear brake light out

Replace bulb

4)odd throttle response

Probably needs another ETM they don't last, new, used or rebuilt

Could be the CEM acting up. Also check it's connectors. Can be repaired by http://www.xemodex.com/ http://www.justanswer.com/volvo/4m8st-v ... ectly.html

The transmission could be the clutch slave cylinder, a common fault.

The alarm, is usually the siren module that has a leaking battery. Can be disconnected.

Those stick shift T5s are pretty popular here...once we know you have one, your alarm may be tested more than once...

If you got the software fix in the recall, it is certainly the ETM gone bad. That was not Volvo's finest hour. The software fix basically told the ECU to ignore the errors until the warranty period was up. (Hyperbole mine)
