1998 v70 xc transmision

Howdy guys
Getting the old volvo ready for my youngest boy to start driving. My oldest started with this car and drove it for several years. When parked the car would creep in park on a grade and also the tranny would sort of shudder/slip under acceleration. The fluid smells fine not burnt and he put several thousand miles on the vehicle with it operating this way. The problem began when he replaced the drivers side cv shaft (directly after the replacement) I have not looked at this yet but am hoping he may have damaged a part I can replace short of replacing the tranny. Has anyone experienced such a thing before? The creeping in park in my head says I maybe able to repair it?

The axle likely isn't seated all the way into the transmission. when they are fully seated the distance between the face of the transaxle and the back of the CV joint should be about 1/16" give or take.

If you have say 1/4" or so then you need to fully seat the axle. There is a circlip on the end of the axle that snaps into a groove in the transmission and locks the axle in place but it can be a bear to get seated. I line the axle up perpendicular to the face of the transaxle and then, with the nut on to protect the threads, give it a smack with a 5 lb sledge hammer to drive it into place.
