OBD II code for CVVT

Post by DNK4 »

I have recently purchased a used 1999 XC70 AWD, and within 500 miles of purchase the engined light came on, code is for CVVT solenoid. What does this mean? Can I drive the car, or should I be in a panic? Thanks[/code]

The VVT valve is a hydaulic selenoid that controls your variable timing on your intake camshaft. I understand that the switch is about $130.00....you can drive the car, just means it's not delivering full potential in the output department. Valve was probably one reason the car was traded - it takes a while for a bad VVT valve to trip a code so they probably cleared the warning lamp so that they could see the tailights leave the lot.

first, check if cvvt could be cleaned as per SB21-0051-0204 which you can buy for a nominal charge from volvocars us book store(pdf version); you will need a new gasket
maybe the code will go away, otherwise it's a solenoid that's going..........
