Since my 2000 V70XC AWD's tranny is shot, and it is $1600 to fix it. The shop I talked to is willing to buy it for $400. I'm wondering and asking opinion about a reasonable price for the car. The transmission guy told me that removing the drive shaft will cause tranny failure eventually, because it was designed to transfer some force to the rear. I read over and over again that it was OK to remove drive shaft for this car. Any comment about his statement?

Car drive well at this moment, only no reverse. It has 202,000 miles, body is in good condition. The leather on the driver's seat has tear. Doesn't have drive shaft and viscous coupler. Four new tires only have 8000 miles on them. New radiator, hoses, and a couple of new sensors (Coolant temperature sensor, MAF sensor etc). ABS module was properly repaired by Midwest ABS. Engine and AC worked great. Has third row seat.

I guess if I part the car, it will be worth more than $500, probably $1000? Because the car as scrap metal can sell $300. But I don't have a place to part out the car. What's the best strategy for me to recoup as much as possible? Maybe craiglist?

The tires are easily sold, if they are on the higher end of the quality scale they could bring around $150 by themselves. The XC wheels would be a steal at $100 for the set. Those are both Craigslist items that would sell quickly and you are already money ahead.

A 200k mile 2.4 LPT that runs good and has good compression should bring around $500.00. Some of the stuff that should bring good money in fact won't, things that require software downloads are pretty much worthless since they are programmed for that car specifically. The ETM and the climate unit are exceptions to that. They may work on another car just fine. I swapped out a climate unit from my parts car to my other '99 XC and VIDA and DICE said it was OK and it works fine. The ETM can be the same but unless the car has the same configuration it won't work hence it won't bring the kind of money it deserves (assuming it is a yellow sticker) because of the uncertainty factor. That said It would probably bring $50.00 on ebay. Once the car is picked clean the scrap yard will typically pay a couple of hundred dollars for the shell.

If you have the time, a place to store it, and the will you can easily get $1000.00 by parting it and as much as double that.

If you do part it run a compression test on all five cylinders first so that you can provide a potential buyer with the compression numbers.

Thanks! Anybody around Baltimore who is willing to make fun parting it out? I don't have time and place to store it.

+++++++1 !!!!
Tranny guy either doesn't realize it's a viscous coupling based system
or simply has absolutely NO clue how a VC AWD system works.

These P80 cars began their run as FWDs in '93.The AWD was tacked on many
years later and pulling the DS has zero bearing on transmission life expectancy. :roll:

I personally don't think 1600 is all that bad to get AWD back, and I'm poor. I wouldn't do it though, I would pay the few hundo to get it out.

I have a 2000 V70XC running with out drive shaft for 2+ years. Engine seems as strong as ever, a few fuel issues recently, but nothing as a result of the shaft removal.

I am looking for some interior bits and pieces. Please PM me if your armrest is in good shape and have interior of 3990.
