1996 850Turbo lots of deferred maintenance

Post by fzdesign »

i am debating whether to sell my favorite volvo ever, since i bought my first one in 1979. it is an 850Turbo GLT, very comfy. it needs a spring seat, cam seals, steering rack leak and boot torn, A/C compressor ++?, driver side door safety thingy that keeps door from going way out (it makes a lot of noise). local volvo dealer to whom i've been taking it since i bought it at 30K M. in 99, quoted about 5K, not including A/C. it's got about 225K miles on it (odometer stopped at 199700). is it reasonable to do all this work or find a replacement for the same amount of money and less mileage? it has a strong engine, i assume, and i'm very comfy in the car after 15 years and don't want to replace it, but i don't want to be sentimental and broke. ANY COMMENTS????

Honestly.. if you can spend 5k to fix or buy another I would buy another. You can find a lower mileage probably in overall better condition car for the money. You could look at another 850, or a R, or move up to a S60 turbo.
