99 v70 coolant film inside windshield and smell

Post by aahmes57 »

Its been a few years since I had a volvo since my last 1998 S70 Turbo, that was 89% stage 0 caught fire.
Anyway, I just picked up this 1999 V70 Base model for 2K, 108K miles and the antifreeze smell is strong and the film is on the inside windshield. I had it runing hot for a while, on the highway and no over heating or change in tempeture gauge. Can anybody nail this down for me? I'm thinking heater core because of the film inside on the windshield.

As always, your expert help is appreciated
John

Classic heater core. You might have a couple of gallons of coolant under your carpets in the back, too.

Thanks guys, any experience with manufacturers? I saw the video with Robert. He got one on ebay for like $40. I don't know though. I prefer to do things once and done. Thanks again.

No personal experience, but good things have been written about the (Estonian) Ebay cheapies here -- except for the smell. Apparently, they need to be run through the dishwasher before you use them to get rid of an unpleasant odor.
