Volvo Repair Database 1999 Volvo C70 power seats don't work!

Post by wizbummer »

Hey guys, new to the forum

I just bought a '99 volvo C70, only to find that the power seats don't work AT ALL. This is on both passanger and driver's side, there is no motor noise or anything at all, and the heated option still works. I would assume this would be a fuse but nothing I can find mentions a fuse for the power functions, only for the heated function. I checked most of the fuses in the secondary panel (unless there's a 3rd I don't know of???) and none of them looked corroded or broken, I've seen there's alot of people who have the problem with broken wires, but this is on both passanger AND driver's side, so I'm very confused. Please help!!

Thanks, I appreciate the diagram although it's kinda hard to read any numbers. The thing in the top left corner, is that supposed to be the fuse box? If so I think that's from an S70 because it looks different than the one in the C70 (separated into 2 boxes instead of a single large one).

If you think you can tell me a bit more about the diagram I would really appreciate it!

I've checked all the fuses, checked the condition of the wires in both driver and passanger side, and checked the condition of the switches (though I have no way to actually test these items). I still can't figure out what the deal is!
If anyone has a C70 owner's manual (my car didn't come with one) could you tell me anything you see about the power seats??

On the C70 the micro switch (3/168) bracket brakes. If the micro switch is not close, the seat will not move. The Volvo dealer has a up-date for the seat.

Check the connection under the seat, apparently they loosen and can disconnect
Same thing happened to my car. Dropped by the Volvo dealer and they gave it back to me in 5 minutes, all fixed!

Does anyone know if the motors for all Volvo seats are the same or different? The one on my 94 850 Non Turbo seat recline isn't working and I just won the motor for a 98 S70 and I'm curious to know if the parts/motor are interchangeable. Thanks for any info.

And again, they're different from 850's to S70s

Jim, you aren't 100% correct here....on the first year S70 ('98's), there are some motors that interchange with the earlier 850 seats...specifically, the ones that have memory do interchange as well as the front-forward (memory is not dependent on this motor). From '99 and later, they do not. I actually spent the last 30 minutes or so combing through my copy of VADIS and matching up seat motor part numbers, so I know what I'm talking about here.
