94 850 Leaking Front Crank Seal

The front crank seal is leaking real bad. I have already taken everything off,to get to the seal. In the process I found the oil pump had some issues. I ordered and recieved the new pump,now when I try to put the pump back on, the seal keeps rolling outward. Is there a way to put the oil pump on that leaves the seal intact? I have the Haynes maual but it really does have much in the way of details fordoing this job.

Is the pump an original Volvo unit?

I think what is happening is that the shoulder on the end of the crankshaft is catching the seal. We had a member that was having oil pump trouble a couple of weeks ago and he had the pump in and out several times. I was hoping that he might chime in.

I think that the trick is to smooth the transition from the harmonic balancer threads to the journal surface. I'm pretty sure there is a "999" tool to screw on and do that but you should be able to build a cone of sorts out of electrical tape. From there grease it up and go slow.
