V70 Cylinder order

Post by chipperdoo2 »

New to forum and looking for some quick info-
I have a 1998 V70 with a # 2 misfire, need to start with replacing the spark plug and need to know the cylinder order. I'm assuming looking at engine from the front #1 is on the left-on passenger side-but just want to be sure. You all know what happens when you ASSume. Thanks

You have it correct. As you face the car from the front the #1 cylinder is indeed to your left.

Yes, #1 is at the timing belt cover. Almost all of my #2 misfires have been burnt valves.

Thanks guys-Put the new spark plug in & she ran like a champ!

Another question though-Under spark plug access cover was some freestanding oil, been smelling oil for awhile now & this explains it. Never saw any leaks below car or anywhere else before seeing it there today. A quick look on this site looks like my PCV system may be the cause, anyone know what a ballpark price would be to get it fixed up at a shop-either dealer or Volvo speacialty garage?

An old oil cap seal is the most likely cause of a pool of oil near spark plugs. This item should be replaced at every oil change. Even when PCV is in poor condition a new oil cap seal can stop these leaks.

Have you tested the PCV yet?

Haven't tested it yet, probably start with the oil cap seal and see if it helps-thanks!

If you do have a clogged up PCV that could cause real trouble. If the PCV is clogged and the cap seal is bad then at least some of the crankcase pressure is getting relieved through the cap. If you seal the cap up it could blow camshaft seals or a crankshaft rear main seal if the pressure gets high enough.

Glad to read that your issue was simple. Did you replace all of the plugs or just the one?

Here is a video I think every P80 Volvo owner should watch.

Start by testing the PCV, at least a glove test over the filler cap would be in order here.
