I have a 1998 V90 - my "collectors car of the future", which spends most of its time in the garage, while my diesel 940 takes things to the rubbish dump, collects stuff from the builders merchants and clocks up the miles.
I am in rural Normandy, where farm tractors seem to outnumber cars and where the local joke is that you can tell when summer has come because the rain gets warmer. Mud is everywhere, including on the paintwork of my V90 after even a short drive. So I bought a set of genuine Volvo 960 mudflaps. No problem mounting the front mudflaps according to the enclosed instructions (which are dated 1995). The part numbers are specified as being correct for the V90.
But the plastic fender (mudguard) lining of the V90 prevents the rear mudflaps from being installed. The local garage owner (a former Volvo mechanic) told me that he remembers that a modification was needed to mount the mudflaps on a V90.
My Question:
- How can I get the proper Volvo instructions for doing the modification needed for mounting the mudflaps?
- Failing that, would anyone be willing to post a detailed close-up photograph of the mudflaps fitted to a V90 (or S90)?
[Note - not a 960. It seems that the plastic liner was changed at around the time that the 960 became the V90 and my mudflaps would fit a 960 without modificaction.]
My thanks for any help.

The part numbers of the rear mudflaps I have are 9134616 and 9134617.
I notice that, although I call them 'mudflaps', Volvo (in the instructions) call them 'splash guards'.

Looking at a parts picture helps, along with all of the parts involved.martin calva wrote:9134616.
And when possible find a Youtube Video; here's one for a Volvo XC70 Mudflaps Installation

Mud flaps should fit easily...martin calva wrote:But the plastic fender (mudguard) lining of the V90 prevents the rear mudflaps from being installed.
I tried searching for pics/etc...nothing.
I think someone works for a Volvo dealership in another forum...I'll double check.

That would be great. Thanks for the various comments.
Those mudflaps in the pic look just like mine. The mudflaps I have fit into place perfectly on my 940 wagon - no problem with the fender plastic lining on that car. I could fit them in just a few minutes - I would simply drill the holes as described in the instructions and rivet (2 rivets) and screw (1 screw) in place. And they would fit a 1995 960 wagon exactly the same way.
But the plastic fender lining prevents me fitting them to my 1998 V90. I imagine the fender lining needs to be cut in some way and then positioned either over, or underneath, the mudflaps. Because this is a car I want to keep for years into the future in its present condition, I want to do the job correctly, as Volvo specified
