I'm trying to replace the power steering pressure hose on my car, as it's developed a leak. I've been following the directions for Pressure Hose and Return Hose downloaded from VIDA. The one thing I can't figure out is how to loosen the nipple that attaches the hose to the steering gear. The wrench I'm using is one from this flare nut set:

It worked well enough to loosen the nipple on the other end of the hose at the power steering pump. On the end at the steering gear, I can get the wrench around the nipple, but I cannot move the wrench in order to loosen it. Is there a special wrench or other tool that can move in that small space, or is there a way to make more space up in there?

Not exactly sure which or where that particular nut is... but when I did my steering rack, I found a flared crows foot wrench http://www.harborfreight.com/7-pc-38-in ... 68999.html was needed and could only do about 1/8 turn or less at a time. Good luck

Thanks! That looks like it will work really well. I have a few extension bars I can attach them to and hopefully that will be able to get in there. The attached photo shows the diagram I'm using with the parts in question circled in red.cuhfs wrote:Not exactly sure which or where that particular nut is... but when I did my steering rack, I found a flared crows foot wrench http://www.harborfreight.com/7-pc-38-in ... 68999.html was needed and could only do about 1/8 turn or less at a time. As a side note, I actually didn't realize my first time through that the shaded piece in the diagram is a special tool you're supposed to use (the equivalent of the crow's foot wrench). I assumed it was a pipe and that they were highlighting the one you were supposed to remove.
In any case, I think if I get those crow's foot wrenches I'll be able to properly complete the replacement. I'll let you know how it goes!

Hey, I have a question for you: did you lower the sub-frame at all because I'm having the same problem as you. even with a crowsfoot wrench on an extension it's damn near impossible to tighten the nut.

When I did steering hose replacement on 2001 V70 T5 a few years ago, I did not drop the subframe. It was difficult job to get to everything and I don't remember the tools I used. However, I do not have metric crows foot wrenches, so I am sure I did not use them. I did get everything tight and did not have leaks.
