fuel pump relay issue

okay so i have had some rough days trying to get this car running normally. it all started a couple weeks ago i turned car on and it shut off after runnin for about 3 seconds. started up got me to work then when i tried to get home it wouldnt start again. long story short i cleaned MAF, replaced spark plugs, cleaned IAC valve, throttle body control valve, replaced thermostat and gasket and replaced ECT sensor. When trying Ozarks fuel pump relay jump the car runs great. got a new KAE fuel pump relay from autozone and the car shuts right off again. returned the new relay to autozone and am currently using a staple to jump the relay 15 and 87. the relay is definitely not working but a staple is... so does anyone have a solution? should i try the relay from the volvo dealership or should i check the relay harness for wiring issues first? im low on cash so i think the staple going to have to get me by till my next pay check but would LOVE to know how anyone else fixed this issue. thank you so much

okay nevermind picked up genuine volvo fuel pump relay and cars back to perfect normal. thanks anyways guys and always use genuine volvo parts is what ive learned from this mess!!!!

Another nail in the aftermarket coffin. I read somewhere that typically something like 1 in 10 aftermarket relays are faulty.

Anyone know if I can drive the car 30 miles on a jumper wire? i bent a nail and got it to run but don't know if the relay would turn the pump on and off while driving.

30 miles or 50 km is fine

At 32 miles the ECU will eject the warp core and you will have anti=matter strewn all over the highway.

(seriously, you will be fine - pull it out (HOT HOT HOT) when you get to your destination)

So after I took it out and brought it into the house to warm up I plugged it back in and it got me there. Next morning no start again so I put the new one in and it ran. Seems they fail when cold first. I am thinking about replacing the two internal capacitors since I have too many 850 to buy a spare for every glove box. Anyone want to suggest a source? I remember seeing a thread somewhere about using ones rated at a higher voltage than the originals.

Its cheaper to get them from a PnP - certainly check. Is the root cause of failure for fuel pump relays actually known to be the caps?
