Transmission over filled by less than 1/2 Qt
I did a simple drain and fill on my 2002 S60 with an auto, it seems im less then .5 qt over. Is a major cause for concern? Im going to do another drain and fill in 2 weeks or so. I used Toyota I-V fluid since it was only $5 a qt

Yes, remove it. Was this checked while HOT?
Unless the tranny fluid is very hot you may not be overfilled at all.

Engine hot doesn't mean the transmission fluid also got hot (80C is the mark). It takes a good 30 min driving in summer time to have the transmission fluid at the hot mark.
How do you measure the 0.5 qt overfill? If it's really that much overfilled, I would remove it as soon. When measuring the level at the dipstick, one must look for a thick droplet, not just smear on the dipstick. Here's a good video about flushing without removing the sump plug. You can replace only 2-3qt at once with this method. Just be careful when removing the green clip so as not to damage it. The two o-rings can be reused if they still feel flexible and are not damaged.

On a side note, the difference between minimum and maximum fluid level is only 200 ml which is about 6-1/2 ounces. You could suction the excess fluid with a small OD piece of tubing that will fit loosely in the dipstick tube and then adjust the level in small increments
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

and to reiterate, an over filled transmission is as bad as one that's under filled

AN update, drain and fill #2, this time its just over 3.5qt and its spot on. Again with the Toyota T-IV. One thing to note, since the first drain and fill the shift from 2nd to 3rd seems a tiny bit "flare-ish".. only when cold. Its not a slip at all just tiny blip. This valve body only has around 2000 miles on it.
