Transmission problem

Pls help n gimme solutions asap. My Volvo s80 once I start it, d P on d dash shows n once I move it coming to 3rd gear it drags n makes a jerky sound n at that point, d dash display instead of show P, or D, it shows a -, Dats a minus sign n den immediately, d car starts crawling like a car whose clutch is burnt. Then wen I off n start, d P comes on fine but once I move it jerks cum clunck harshly n d minus sign comes on n crawling sets it.
Took it for diagnosis n read Transmission speed line missing..... Whatever that means. Some mechanics suggested its d fibers gone, some say I shud buy another gearbox, some say its d Throttle Board. Av changed gear oil still d same story. Pls wat do I do? Its a 5cylinder, front wheel drive 03 Volvo s80, with dutch text display.

Looks as thought the 3rd gear friction band is worn beyond limits. The - sign means it can't find a gear. You can manually shift if you have geartronic by avoiding 3rd gear.

Repairable with about 12 hours of labour and a DIY mindset.

Tanx a lot but mine has no manual shift. Worse off is at stop lights, wen I want to move I Haf to heavy throttle before it starts crawling, it responds faster wen moving from a standstill with d gear in L but changing from L to 3 or D jolts cums jerks seriously as if something hit d gearbox. All I do is drive slowly until speed picks up n I don't go beyond 80km/hr. But once I off n start, d P shows n takeoff is fine n once u want to accelerate u hear bad jolt sound n - appears n car crawls. During all these d dashboard hazard light still lights Orange, not Red. Am planning on buying a good used tranny.

Transmission is in limp mode. This makes it start in 2nd or 3rd gear.

If you keep driving it without repair you'll fry the gearbox and need a new one.

Pls anyone help, if I want to buy a used Volvo xc90, of 05/06 which engine type wud u advise me to buy that will b durable n fuel efficient? Cos I love certain things in Volvo like d air con vents which stretches to d rear, d door lights, d light under d side mirrors, etc.
