850 cabin filter question

Strangely my car has no cabin filter. I am replacing the existing cabin intake surround with one from a S70. The question is, is there any sealant required between the filter housing and the point onto which it its, or is it just a push fit?

When I installed my cabin filter into my 850 it was just a snug fit, the bracket you have to buy should hold it snug.

Thanks guys. I plan to install at the same time as cleaning out the area around the wiper motor, and clean the drain(s).

Good idea. Blow out the drains near the trunk with an air compressor too, if you can.

No sealant. Hmmm I should probably inspect my cabin filter; its been 2 years I think since I installed it.

Well good to know on the sealant. Having said that, there looks to have been some sealant under the edge of the rubber boot that the cabin filter unit sits on. Should that be sealed around its perimeter to the metal to prevent water backing up and getting under it?

I had difficulty getting the filter pod in place as the thick cable sleeve keeps lifting the front corner. Some fiddling with the sleeve has got it to where I think it is now ok, as long as it doesn't sit too high in the middle! See 2nd picture below. First picture is of the cabin filter holder in place.

Strangely the drain by the cabin filter was clear, but the one in front of that was totally blocked for about the last 6"!!

Now just have to clean the other half around the wind-shield washer motor and also the drains on that side too. I know the one in the engine bay is a real pain as it has so many turns it is easy to block!

I remember having to reposition that cable sleeve when I installed mine as well. Luckily there should be enough wiggle room to hold that sleeve out of the way while you press the filter bracket in place, then release the sleeve to have it rest against it.

That is what I did, but thanks anyway for the input. But still considering removing it again and putting a thin layer of sealant under the lower rubber sleeve as it isn't a big job.
