740 dies when air is turned on

i have a 1990 740 gl series. I need a muffler but thats not my problem. My car cuts off when i turn my air on and yesterday it cut off and now it will not crank back up. It wants to turn over but it doesn't. i read on some of the other people in the community and there was a couple of ppl who seem to have the same problem but i am not sure somebody pls help school starts in a couple weeks!!!
