850R PCV job-surprises lurking

Well I made it about half way through the PCV job tonight before the rain rolled in and I ran out of daylight. Little surprises here and there with aftermarket clamps and zip ties here and there. My big surprise was the gem at the bottom of the dipstick tube. Looks they went the cheap route to try to stop a leak. Well I am glad to make it right. I am wondering if I should just order a new dipstick tube or just a new o-ring...Once i started peeling the gunk off, the tube looked normal. Thoughts?

Looks like someone tried to augment the o-ring, as you suggest. If it's whole and normal, a new o-ring should be fine. Someone probably didn't know how to service the PCV, and just tried to plug up the pressure induced seepage.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking the same thing..previous owner replaced cam seals...but didn't make the connection-or spend the money-to service PCV. Just stick some goop on there to fix it!

Tube should be fine. I would clean it off and install a new seal, which should have come in your kit.

Clean it real good, new o-ring, put it back in. Should be good.

Put a little grease or your favorite sealant on the O ring before slipping the tube in to place. Mine weeps a bit after doing this job, never did before I touched it.

Douse the exposed area of the dipstick that is going into the pan with ATP AT205.
