97 850 Remote FOB

One of my remote FOB for my 97 850 doesn't work. It doesn't make any sounds and I changed the battery.
I opened it but didn't see anything obvious wrong with it. Any common issues?

Second question: If my other remote FOB fails, is there a way to bypass the alarm and start the car? Or does it leave you stranded?

I'll have to go out and try, but as you don't have a chipped key, have you tried just unlocking the door with the key and starting the car normally?

Neil is right, you can just unlock it with the key. If there is any issue, first lock (or re-lock) it then unlock it.

One issue I have dealt before is the button(s) getting gummed up; in that case they will be noticeably sticky and not clicking well. I have fixed them by pulling the board out and then working the button up and down while in a little bath of 100% rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol. Just let it evaporate well before you reinstall the batteries. I haven't used 70% isopropanol on electronics, the amount of water in there worries me.
