Stupid guy broke this part, what is it?

Post by dczech »

When I was replacing the ABS module on my 2004 s60 2.5tAWD, I was less careful than I should have been with what appears to be a small solenoid to control some airflow. It sits just in front of the airbox, clipped directly to it. Approximately 1.5 inches diameter.

Has a 2-wire electrical connection and 3 air connections:
1:down through a braid-insulated pipe to some type of metal thing that I can't get a good view of toward the left-front-bottom part of the engine bay.
2:left to intake manifold through a green plastic venturi-looking thing
3:right, around airbox, then under fuse box... MAYBE to brake booster?

I managed to crack the fragile upper casing of this thing when I was using it as a handle to pull on the air hose while replacing into the clip on the airbox, so RIGGED this UGLY fix for now with some gorilla-tape, a door-latch-part, and a couple of zip-ties.

MAYBE if I can figure out what it is, I can actually buy a replacement for it. (or I'll just have to look for it next time I find another s60 in a salvage yard)

Any help on identifying it?

Check the pics of my awesome handiwork ;)

Nice patch up with available stuff!

It looks like the vacuum sensor for the brake booster but I'm not positive about that.
