First time doing this VVT hub replacement. I assume I mark the gear for slotted bolt position and then remove the three bolts holding the VVT hub to the gear. Is there any particular position other than the gear bolts aligning in the same location on in their respective slots.
In other words can the hub be installed wrong to the gear or any 3 bolt holes on gear can be used as long as the bolt position in the slotted location remains the same on the gear.???
Any tips / advice is appreciated for putting new hub on gear .

- Take photos of the location of the 3 bolts; mark with sharpie the location of the center of the bolt.
- In the video below, pay attention to timing marking 2:45-2:50!
You will see how the OUTER sprocket rotates back and forth (the cams were already locked in the video).
- During installation (use a new Corteco or Volvo cam seal), install the VVT Hub and rotate it CW until it is 1.5-2.0 cogs to the LEFT (search forum for the info on how many cogs).
Gently-to-moderately tighten the center bolt. Now the INNER hub is mated with the cam.
- Now rotate the OUTER sprocket by hand back and forth, you should be able to rotate it CW until it stops.
When the OUTER sprocket stops at CW position (which is neutral, not advanced cam position), the mark on the OUTER Sprocket must line up with the cam cover.
- Once the back and forth rotation of the OUTER sprocket is confirmed to be good. Tighten the center bolt to torque values.
- Check it again after the bolt is tightened.

CN90 Thank you.
Also, am I correct that there is no "right side up" for hub... ? No correct position specific to the gear (I mean like... it cant be installed upside down). As you stated with the sharpie mark sprocket position, I Just need to be sure slots and bolts are in same place. Hub holes are not specific to position... just the outer gear / sprocket

There is no keying on the hub. The only way to properly set it up is to use the cam adjustment tool to set the timing with the rear slots on the camshafts and then set the timing mark one tooth CCW from 12:00 before torquing it down. The cam adjustment tools need to be the real deal rather than the home-brew versions since there is a gob of torque on the center Torx bolt and the homemade tools can't hold without twisting.

If I had read that I wouldn’t have had to adjust the belt after doing this job. Also, you will pop code P0014 if you are off by a tooth or twoThe only way to properly set it up is to use the cam adjustment tool to set the timing with the rear slots on the camshafts and then set the timing mark one tooth CCW from 12:00 before torquing it down.
