Question Putting C70 amp into a S70

Post by gordo850turbo »

I'm removing a 200 watt amp that is located in front of heater core and replacing with the 400 watt C70 amp that goes under the seat. I've purchased adapters and I'm stuck with what to do with 5 wires. I have all the speaker wires hooked up. The C70 amp only has 10 wires coming out of it(8 speaker wires + power and ground) plus the 6 pin DIN. The 200 watt amp has the 8 speaker wires and the 6 pin DIN, plus about 8 or 10 more coming out of it? I don't want to cut my harness that I am using for the 200 watt amp if I don't have to. Not sure what to do next? I think I need to find a wiring harness out of a junk yard car. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is another comparison between the Volvo speaker plug and aftermarket plug. These seem to match.

I would try to get a C70 harness. Some wires may be for the Dolby unit.

I have a harness from a S80 that I am trying to modify. I live in central Illinois and there are not many old Volvo's around. Lots of corn though. :) If you have any ideas where to get a C70 harness, let me know. I got the S80 harness off of eBay, but haven't seen much else.

I just installed a SC-901 with Dolby and center speaker in my 98 V70. I used a PA-200 200 watt amp from under the seat of an S80. I used the following to build my own wiring harness:

1) PA-200 wiring harness
2) Metra radio harness (70-9220)
3) I used the two black connectors from a scrap yard C70 that plug into the SC-901. I clipped them from the wiring harness. You can alternately use the standard issue V70 connectors and just cut off the wires not needed. They are a superset of the wires on the C70 connectors.

Ah, I didn't know you could use the S80 amp in the P80s. Good to know.

I think I found my answer from a post here by ojdorson called "Breakout cable to add an Amp to P80 cars". It looks like I am missing the two plugs that go into the radio. I will be going to the junk yard this weekend to try to find one. Shouldn't be hard since every Volvo has one. My only problem is that out of all of the nearest junk yards around here, there is only one 70 series car! I will post next week on how it works out.

I can save you a trip to the scrap yard. I have those two connectors with long wire leads here in front of me . Taken from a V70. I won't be needing them. PM me if interested.

I still want to check out that car in the junk yard. If it has been picked already I will definitely be sending you a PM next week. Thanks

Update: I actually only needed the 14 pin connector to finish the harness. The 400 watt amp works great under the passenger seat! Next step is to start installing my set of Dynaudio speakers in the S70. Going to junk yard today to pick some speakers. Will take them out of the mounting brackets like Ozark Lee's article explains. Hopefully will make them plug & play! :D

How did you get the amp to fit under the passenger seat?
