Why does Emissions test show my 850 is a turbo, when it's not?

Post by DARK_BLU »

Thankfully, my Volvo passed emissions again, this year. Every year, my 96 850 GLT passes emissions testing, but there is one thing that is off, on the print out. The print out shows it as a 2.3 liter Turbo, but it's really a 2.4 Liter NA. Why does emissions testing show my car as a 2.3 liter Turbo, when it's actually not? What could be causing this?

Every year. The computer pulls info from your car's VIN number.

So, that means in theory that this Engine COULD handle a Turbo installation, with Turbo/Exhaust manifold/Exhaust, intercooler w/ piping, and a Turbo ECU? Wouldn't be looking for anything more than 300HP, which as I understand it, this motor could easily handle on stock internals? And before you say "sell it and buy a turbo brick/850R or T5R", that's not an option for me. I have history with this car and will be driving this car for quite a while.

LOL. We're a long way from that kind of insanity, but it's nice to know that this info is coming from the VIN, not a typo.
