Open Connector: How

I've opened the clips on both ends, but it seems it will not pull apart. Am I missing something?

Screwdrivers had to be used to slowly separate...a real pill.

I thought maybe there was something else holding them together....they looked clean after some 23 years of being closed. But, there could be an oxidation layer on those clean looking pins/holes.
