Hi all,
Sorry if this has been asked before, I've tried searching but not sure of what the right phrase is for my problem.
My 1996 850 has an adjustable steering wheel, which I'm sure most if not all 850s/x70s have. The problem with mine is that it's gotten old and tired, much like myself, and droops to a rest about an inch and a half lower than I prefer it to. If I pull the steeering wheel closer and lock it in place there, it won't budge, which is great but unfortunately not really comfortable to me.
I'm gussing the locking arm is okay since it'll lock properly in a spot that hasn't been so often used.
Is there a "redneck" quick fix to this that won't cost a fortune?
Thanks,
Teddy

You can adjust the tension, I have had to do it on one or two of mine. You remove the plastic steering column collar which is held on with three torx screws. The torx screws are set in there deep and they take a fairly long torx screwdriver to get to them. The set you buy at Lowes isn't long enough but the Harbor Freight specials work great.
Once the collar is off locate the lever on the left hand side and follow it across the column to the right hand side and you will see the nut that the lever rod runs to. The net is held captive but you can release it and give it about another half a turn tighter and it will work fine again. There was some sort of trick to get the nut to release and I can't remember exactly what it was but it wasn't difficult at all.
