What is this sensor for?

Post by io »

I was under the hood today and found some sort of sensor (??) bolted to the hood latch on the passenger (right) side - it's directly in front of the washer fluid fill. The sensor is connected with purple electrical connector. I unbolted the sensor from the latch and found that there is an O-ring on the bottom of it. It looks like it should be attached to something but I don't know what. Does anybody know what this sensor is for or what it should be attached to?

Thanks,
Nick

It is most likely the sensor that tells the central alarm that the hood is closed and the alarm can be set. Similar to the hood pins common with high end car alarms like Clifford. I bet if you disconnet it you will not be able to get the alarm to come on.

At first, I thought that it was an alarm sensor as well but I'm pretty sure that the alarm sensor for the hood is on the driver's side latch. I'll try disconnecting that passenger's side sensor tomorrow and see if the alarm will set. Thanks for the suggestion.
