Hello there,
Is there a best place to push a wire through the firewall?
The size is the same as regular zip cord which is the cord that is used on most regular house lamps. It is two conductor, not very wide, about 1/4 inch wide, and about 1/8 inch thick as there are two wires next to each other.
I am going to run a wire from the battery terminals to inside the passenger compartment and that means it has to run through the firewall. I did this in my old Hyundai but that was easy as there was a big round grommet so all i had to do was push the wire through. With this Volvo 1998 v70 i am not so sure where the best place would be where i would not have to drill a new hole.
Thanks.
P.S . This should be the last problem i have to solve in order to run a wire from the battery to the inside for various power and monitoring purposes.

I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

IIRC VOLVO installed an accessory connector that offers fused switched/nonswitched power in the passenger compartment. It is located under the dash on the driver's (LHD) side. Color is yellow. This has been discussed previously in the forum and if you search the forum you will find it complete with photos. It will save you a lot of work.
Les is more.

I remember hearing about that, but I haven't seen it. Then again, I haven't gone looking for it. BEJinFbk posted something about it I remember.kranz wrote: ↑14 Sep 2017, 13:52 IIRC Volvo installed an accessory connector that offers fused switched/nonswitched power in the passenger compartment. If you want to go straight to the battery, there is a grommet below the main fuse box that passes through just above the fuse panel above the brake pedal. Hard to find from the inside sometimes, but it's up there. Just cut a "tentacle" off and run the wire right through.

If you look up my boost gauge install I show pictures of the gromet, it is excellent for passing wires.

OP knows all about the accessory connector with its various forms of switched and constant power viewtopic.php?t=69527.

Yes i had asked about that previously on here, and i did find it, but then i'd have to look again because it's been a while since i was looking for that (some years back now).
However, this time i wanted to install my own complete system that would be completely independent of any other elecrical item on the car, hence my desire to push my own wire through the firewall. This is for different reasons such as wire gauge and fusing control, as well as not bothering anything else on the car. I also want a ground wire so i get both terminals right from the battery rather though the chassis of the car.
Thanks for the suggestion.

That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Hi,
Thanks again Robert, nice video too. I had forgotten all about the hood release cable too and that may be the simplest for me. I want to run both the positive and negative terminals to the inside of the car.
That's the funniest looking grommet i've ever seen to date, and i've seen a lot of them in my time
