mystery part

Looking for a bit of help identifying a part.Yesterday I successfully replaced the heater core on my 99 V70. While doing the job I found a part lying on the carpet on the driver's side. I don't know what it is or where it came from. Not even sure it's from the Volvo. Anybody recognize this? Any/all help appreciated. THANKS!

That is part of the key/steering wheel interlock mechanism in the steering column.

Leave it out - one less potential problem to have to fix.
