Curtain airbag deployed

Post by keithf »

Hi Friends - my son was in a fender bender with his 2007 S60 T5 and the driver-side curtain airbag deployed. The car is very fixable, but I'm concerned about successfully replacing the airbag. I can get a replacement airbag on eBay, though various forums seem to indicate that I need to also replace an SRS module and/or a software reset at the dealer.

Does anyone know the exact parts and process to replace the curtain airbag?

Thanks!

If the car will not start it is in crash mode. You will need Vida-DiCE to get it out of crash mode.

Ahh - I should have added that detail. The car starts and drives. The SRS Airbag warning is displaying in the instrument cluster.

Replace the air bag and reset the SRS warning. Vida-DiCE can reset the warning.

Just make sure you disconnect the battery before you do any work. You would not want the new air bag to deploy when your installing it.

Hope he knows better or comes back and reads this.

When a side airbag deploys does it take out a trim strip? I'm thinking the trim won't stay because the gripping ridge has been broken off.

It should break at least partially.

The air bags shouldn't deploy for just a "fender bender" though. I'd never want to fix and drive a car that had the airbags deployed. But each to his own.

All the bags in my car blew, serious crash totalled it. I got it after a body guy fixed it.
