2 Wires into Bottom of Heated Seat

Post by Svenska 850 Wagon »

Hey Guys, My drivers side Heated seat does not seem to work. The passenger side does work.

Under the seat there are two wires that go into the middle of the cushion. One is Red (Snapped off on the Drivers Side) and then a Red with a White strip (Snapped off on the Passenger Side) Should they not both work?

I am Confused :?

Also if I can re-attach them do I have to pull the seat out?

Thanks

Many f the 850's are under recall for the seat heater. Give a dealer a call and see if yours is one that needs to be done.

The recall will not fix an inoperatable seat heater. Mine was just done & did not rectify the non-functioning unit.

I'm not sure on the circuitry, but apparently both input wires are positive and there is some common ground through the frame?

I fixed a broken wire on my driver's side and the seat heater now works.

Yah I checked the dealer and there were no recalls. Should I connect both loose wires back up?

Usually it's a wire that breaks from the movement of the seat...usually it's very obvious which wires go to which ones.

Is there a right and wrong order to hook the wires into the seat?

I had no idea where they went and put a new connector on mine and plugged them in.. So far, it's working right, so I'll leave it as is ;-)

Also, it was a blind fix.. I was going by feel due to the limited visibility under there.

Oddly enough my 960 doesn't work, but there are about 10x the amount of wires under the seat, and no obvious seat heater wires like on the 850.

Thanks guys. I will give it a try. Now that I know that the seat is a common ground it seems like you can do no wrong.

Speaking of seats I just put the 3rd Row seat in as well

Now all I have left to do are IPD Sway bars 8)

Cool...you'll love the swaybars....makes the car seem like a totally different ride! :D

To answer luketrash, maybe which wires you connect really don't matter, but from what I recall there is a visible line on one of the wires and not the other...just connect the wire with a line to the wire with a line, and the not with the not, if you know what I mean. These wires that break, by the way connect up under the seat to a round disc which is actually the thermostat to the heater. A break in the line renders the heater to be non-functional.

I think the heated seat recall fix was only for the 1996 and 1997 850s.

You don't need to remove the whole seat from the car to reconnect the heating element wires. Just remove the hog rings so you can access the bottom seat and heating element (if needed). The rear and lumbar pads seem to be in parallel so you only need to reconnect the disconnected wires.

I've uploaded the wiring schematic for '97 850 seats at this address: http://www.filefactory.com/file/2692ed/

This may be helpful for you as I don't think it's much different for the other model years.
