Tailgate access hatch

Hello all. Two years ago we could not open our tailgate on the 2002 Volvo XC70. It ended up it was a relay on the driver side trunk! The other day we had some trouble opening it again but I got it open. Before putting the back panel on the tailgate on I am going to cut a 4" x 7" inch rectangular access hatch so that in the future I can gain access to the latch mechanism. If anyone has advice please let me know. Once I cut the door opening I will send photos of what I did. I want to try and use the peace of carpeted plastic from the cutout to try and keep things looking as clean as possible.

I’ll bet you can swap that relay with one of the others to get the trunk or hatch open in a pinch

Absolutely, I bought a few backups locally.
