2001 S60 Low beam fuses keep blowing

Post by bschlage »

Getting the Bulb Failure Dipped Beam warning message. Both headlights were visibly burnt out (busted filament), so I replaced those; however, they didn't work when I plugged them in and turned the ignition on. Checked the 10A fuses for the low beams (fuses 1 and 2) in the side of the drivers side dash, and both were blown. Replaced them both and put an ammeter across the drivers side headlight plug terminals. Turned the ignition on, and it drew current for less than a second before the fuse blew. Both of the headlight socket insulators (PN# 8678122) are in poor shape (drivers side socket looks burnt, passengers side socket has a missing side), but the terminals don't seem to be contacting each other anywhere. Also checked the shunt in the CEM below the dash, but that seemed fine and showed no visible signs of being burnt/fried. Any suggestions? Can the socket insulators really be causing these shorts? Thanks.

Get a VOM and check for a short. Just put the prong into the socket or back if you can. If it has no short then you have to look elsewhere. Visual on Shunt and Relay not reliable.
