No front brakes

Post by rribbke »

Gang

I have a 98 S70. Neither front caliper is actuating when you press the pedal. The rears are stopping the car. The master cylinder is full, and when i pop the bleeders on the front calipers and press the brake pedal i get no fluid. Thoughts?

Are the bleeders pointing up? How long has the car been sitting?

The car is a daily driver. The bleeders are pointing up. The brakes have gotten progressively harder over the last couple of months and are to the point that I finally pulled the wheels to look at the calipers and that’s when I noticed the issues i described.

Steel lines might be clogged or the rubber hoses. I'd take the rubber hoses off first to see if you have fluid there.

Depress brake and check that both lines on master cylinder will squirt fluid is the lines are loosened 1/2 turn. That car still has the front/rear split so a bad master cylinder can affect only front or back. Not impossible but unlikely both hoses plus at one time. The ABS can kill and individual front circuit or both backs as that is a 3 circuit system with both back on one circuit. Since both fronts are not flowing that effectively rules out ABS pump module as it is unlikely but not impossible that both the valves in module would stick shut at one time.

Jimmy, are you sure the front and rear brakes are split f/f and r/r. At least on the european models they are split diagonally f/r and r/f
