Having gone through all the posts related to the evap system I can tell you how to test and repair just about any system from 1985 on. There is a lot of info on the location of the canister and control valves on a number of years with the exception of the 02/v70.
It is not under the hood or behind the left side wheel well or in any other obvious location. I have looked under the car but not having a lift makes this a bit difficult not knowing just were to look. The codes I am getting and the fact that I am blowing #5 under hood fuse indicates the purge valve or circuit is shorted (already replaced the vent valve).
Long and short of it,, where is the carbon canister and purge valve on a 2002 v70 Crosscountry ??
Thank you in advance.
john

John , put your VIN INTO Volvo parts lisle and then print the diagram for your car
I believe it’s just in front of the rear axle on a P2 XC

Thank you for your reply,,,, I will take your suggestion. I may have to ask were the parts list is but let me look first.
That is quite a fleet you have,, I can only boast:
67 mustang
85 elky
02 volvo
1 boat with big pointy thing on top (trawler)
Thanks again I will let you know how I made out,,,

OK I found the carbon canister,,it was about were you said forward of the left rear axel. NOT EAZY TO GET TO!!!
After lowering the exhaust system and the heat shield for the muffler I was able to access the carbon canister. It looks fine all the hoses look good as well. right next to the canister there is what is called the Vapor leak detection pump,,,,NO VENT VALVE. I tried following the hoses but they get lost fast in the confusion of suspension parts. I believe the vent filter is mounted to the fill tube up inside the wheel well, nothing there that could be the valve (no wires).
I attempted to download the schematic but all I seem to get is a generic drawing not specific to the location of the valve.
The original problem resulted in blowing the #5 under hood fuse, this triggered the evap codes. Suspect vent valve or wire harness is shorted. Not much I can do till I find the vent valve and verify its not shorted.
Just babbling at this point,,,very frustrating.

Is that all there is on fuse 5 circuit? Just want to make sure we are fault finding in the right place.
Lethe know where you are in Boston if you want to bang heads together on this,

Good morning,,,
The best I can tell from the fault codes the evap system is the culprit taking out fuse #5.
PO245 Turbo charger wast gate Solenoid low
PO445 Evaporative Emission system Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted
PO448 Evaporative Emission system Vent Control Circuit Shorted
P2401 Evaporative Emission system Leak Detection Pump Control Circuit Low
P2090 Camshaft Position Actuator Control Circuit Low Bank 1
So far I have located and isolated the Purge Control and the Detection Pump, that is I have unplugged them an still blow the fuse.
I started getting this code some months ago at that time I found and replaced the purge valve with no change. Other than the CE light the car runs fine so I let the boat with the pointy thing on top distract me till the end of the season. Other than the light I do get an occasional fuel smell don't know if its related. Figure the vent is stuck open.
Anyway ,,At this point I really need a to find a schematic to be able to follow the wires and locate the components. I have actually purchased a couple Manuals/down loads, wast of money do better with the forums and you tube.
I am Going to take a second look today
BTW I am located in Brockton
Thanks again for your reply

The fault codes come because fuse 5 is blown, not vice Versa. I think the pcv system heater is on that same circuit and that's a good candidate for a short or burnout. When you replace fuse 5does it blow right away?
If it does , try unplugging everything on fuse 5 , put a new fuse in and see if it sticks.
Volvo user manuals are free online, by the way

Agree, the codes are the result of the fuse being blown and it could be anything on the circuit. I focused on the purge and vent because they came up shorted. I have been unplugging components as I find them, so far the purge valve and the vacuum detection pump. I am still looking for the vent valve. Once I find it that will eliminate the evap sytem then I will start looking for the other components on the fuse.
I put everything underneath back together having not identified anything bad. I did see that the pvc heater is on that fuse another component location unknown.
As I mentioned before I haven't had much luck downloading a manual off line, I can find them but there not very informative. I am back to square one at this point with the car back together so I will make an earnest attempt to find a manual that gives the location of the components and go from there.
Thank you again for your input,, you did local the canister. I may not be good but I am persistent.

THE PTC orfice is on the elephant hose that goes from air cleaner box back to the turbo. Its the biggest hose on the snout - you have to dig in the back of the engine to get to it.
There is an electrical connector on it to heat it - it is not a valve, just a heated hole.
If that heater shorts out, it twill take out Fuse 5 (I think) and then you will pop evap codes.
Mechanics make $125 and hour not because they are smart, but because people arent persistent. You got this.
