2003 V70 non turbo

This a new issue. When I start it, the engine revs all the way up to red line. I shut it off quickly and waited a minute and then it started normally. It's done this 3-4 times recently. Any ideas?

Of course, first I would look at the floor carpet, in case the pedal gets stuck somehow.

How many miles on it ? If it's an early 2003, do you have the Marelli ETM ? Looks like this https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q ... 9873313935

Maybe an engine management problem ? Normally the engine will rev around 1500 rpm to heat up the cat and build some vacuum, maybe a sensor is fouling the ECU ?

Less probable, but maybe also an issue with a leaking injector ? I'm thinking, injectors leaking overnight some gas inside the cylinders.. just a theory..

Rarely caused by dirty Throttle Body.
May want to clean TB, very easy DIY.
I posted the DIY TB in XC90 forum...

Add large vacuum leak to what is listed above.
