S70 T5

Post by daveaherne »

Hi Folks,
I've an absolutely mint 1997 S70 T5. Before this I had an 850GLT, thing is -I'm a little dissappointed in the sound of the T5 relative to the 850-it had such a lovely hum at idle and the lovely throaty sound from the engine under acceleration. The T5 just seems more muffled/muted, and I'd like to try and open up the sound a bit more. I don't want the huge exhaust and noise like a boy racer-any ideas or experiences of this?
Thanks.

Check out IPDusa.com
There are other companies out there too...or you could get a downpipe and exhaust fabbed. It will change the sound for sure. Using a K&N filter rather than the OEM air filter will help a wee bit too.

Give the K&N panel air filter a try first. That seemed to give mine a nice tone at idle and throaty sound at acceleration without having to change your exhaust/downpipe setup.

If you're not happy with the sound, at least you can revert back to the stock configuration filter easily.

Ive got the TME exhaust from IPD and I love it. It is louder than stock but not even close to the rice racer exhausts. It has better throttle response and gave me ten more horsepower. It is right on the edge of loud enough to know there's a difference but not to loud to be offending. Wait till it goes on sale. IPd usually wants ~ $650 but I got it 20% off.

Get a shop to just make you an exhaust with a magnaflow muffler. I got a full 3" stainless turbo back exhaust with a race cat made for $850. A STEAL.

They quoted me "about $300" for an exhaust for my wife's S70 T5.

A good turbo back with a race cat, resonator and muffler should do the trick and give you quite a bit more power as well. Very little turbo lag.
