2.5T VVT Hub center bolt question...

Post by cn90 »

The bolt that mates the VVT to the cam shaft is torqued to about 85-90 ft*lb...

Do you rely on the torque only?

Does anyone here add a drop of Loctite to make sure it does not come loose?

Volvo say no, so I don’t. It’s too oily for loctite to setup right anyway, I think.

90 ft lbs is really tight. It’s not going anywhere

I don’t, and I clean my bolts with brake parts cleaner.

The bolt is clean, no thread glue on it. Make sure the three outer hub to sprocket bolts are tight, mine were slightly loose. Ive read of someone that had these bolts fall of, made lots of noise as the hub turned.

It would be like putting loctite on lugnuts.

Does anyone here ever break this bolt?
Can I re-use this bolt?

If I remember correctly VIDA instructed to add engine oil to the threads when I replaced thw VVT on our V70 2.4 170hp NA engine.

Can double check if you want me to.

The link below says we need 3/4" drive T55 bit...

http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/15 ... ng-timing/

My T55 bit is 3/8" type.

Thoughts?

A 3/8 t55 will work fine. I’ve never heard of this breaking, but make sure your T55 bit is sharp and new. If the bolt looks gnawed on, pm me for a spare.

3/8 or 1/2 inch torque wrench is plenty enough .
Go with whatever size torque wrench you own.
