2013 Volvo C30 lug Nut Covers

Post by BlackThunder »

Ok, I bought some used Sironas with Hakapelitas for my C30. I wanted to fit these myself instead of taking them to a shop.

I have the tools but cannot seem to get the lug nut covers to come off! I have the salad Tong tool but can't seem to grab enough. Any suggestions on how to get these off?

Sidenote: new wheels have 235s on them, currently I run 205s. Has anyone experienced rubbing with 235s?

Try a pair of pliers on the lip or just use a socket that fits to remove one and then figure out how they go on. For some reason I don't remember pulling those off.

As for the tires ours came with two almost new 225/40/18 but the other two were bald. Went with the stock 215/45/18 but should have gone up to at least 225/45/18.

Play with the Size Comparison Tool to see the increase and decrease in height and width. Some other forum members run 235/45/18 without issues. Remember the difference in height and width is split in half in reference to fender well clearance from all sides.

Thanks. I hope the tires fit without rubbing. These were a smoking deal.

I tried for a long time and ended up just scraping my wheels more with various flat implements to pry off the lug nut covers. I may end up just trying to get those nuts off with a socket as suggested. OR I may end up taking the car to a shop. Either way I need to do something else when I put these back on. If I'm struggling to get these nut covers now when I have tools and time I can't imagine doing this on the side of the road trying to put on a spare tire.

Thank you.

Ok, after looking more at those pictures are the plastic parts actually part of the lug nut? I mean they aren't separate? If that is the case no wonder I couldn't get these off. I will definitely be ordering something different if that is the case. The plastic would crack, right?

I do have extra caps that I purchased just in case a while ago.

Thanks, I'll report back as to my progess.

Yes the plastic parts are part of the nut. I had figured they came off. Well they did come off when I was trying to get the nuts off. I'm sure after years of impact gun use from shops it has made those things weak. I'm surprised more didn't break off when I was working on it.

I got one tire installed and took it for a short drive and put it at full lock. There didn't seem to be any rubbing. So that is good! However since I couldn't get the other wheel lug nuts off I'm going to have a shop put the rest of the wheels on.

Thanks for the help!

My son removed the wheels each time we worked on the car and it's with him at school so I don't remember the lug nuts. It is plastic and Volvo has a kit with all, 1 wheel or individually.

https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/prod ... 71082.html

Stock tires are 215 vs 235 which means the tire is splitting the 25mm difference to the inside and outside of the wheel well. We are running 25mm spacers in the rear so it sticks further out which means you should not have any problems.

Without wheel spacers.

With wheel spacers but before reducing the negative camber, especially the right side with the installed adjustable camber arm.

While looking for the jacking points on our 08 I found something on the lug nuts. You can download a Manual for your 2013 in the link above. On page 199 it shows the different lug nuts. I would continue to use only the taller ones for the aluminum wheels if that's what came with the car.

I got fed up with the factory lug nuts as well, but the seat on most of the aftermarket nuts I found was too narrow for my stock (Midir) wheels. I ended up replacing all of them with Dorman part # 611-307 a couple years ago- they're two pieces, but the hex part is solid. So far so good.

Are these the ones? Same number you provided, shaped like OEM but it's a one piece from the picture. Amazon's fitment guide also indicates it won't work for the 13 C30? OEM being a two piece allows the cone to seat without scraping the rim as you tighten.

I'm pretty sure mine are two-piece, but the "split" between pieces isn't at the same point as on the factory ones - it's not like a conical washer that spins, it's the whole bottom piece. You can kind of see it in the Amazon photos. I'll yank one off this evening to be sure and let you know.

No clue why it would say it doesn't fit a C30. For what it's worth, it doesn't say it fits a 2012 either. Amazon's fitment guide is very hit-or-miss in my experience.
