So the other day I filled up with £ 30 of petrol....
It seemed like £10 worth ended up on the floor running out from underneath the car....
So I went on an investigation
The rubber filler to tank connection hose was shot..
This has got to be the stupidest design in the world as replacement is a nightmare...
Leak from fuel tank when filling up! Topic is solved

So with the car jacked up as high as I could get it it was dropped on axel stands, off with the offside rear wheel and out with the arch liner to see if I could access from there... NOPE!
underneath it looked bleak. The fuel tank bolts corroded and not looking too smart..
Outwith the back seats... All these options I had read were possible ways to get at the tank pipes... Again NO.

So we made our own solution...
Well that was a job and a half! I jacked Lucy high as I could..
Options
1. Drop the tank to access the rubber filler tube pipe and the air return rubber pipe.
2. Drill a hole in the floor pan as I've seen on YouTube Robert DIY.
3.drop the subframe. 4.come up with another way which was less hassle and redesigned the whole v70 filler assembly..
My issues...
1.Mounting bolts are shot can't drop tank.
2. Dint want to unnecessarily drill the car to shit.(Robert DIY way)
3. Just fook off I'm not pissin about dropping the subframe.
4. Genius..... Well in my opinion.
Here goes...
Pinged the filler hose retaining clips, removed filler neck rubber securing cap fron the fuel flap hatch.
Then removed the clips and cable ties from around the 3 fuel filler pipes and hacksawed through the pipes past the 90 deg angle (not the rubber breather pipe as that can be left in place.. All pipes come out easily in two pieces.
then with the rubber tank connectors still connected to the pipes. Replace and refit opposite way / order of removal then using rubber pipe connectors from a fish/pond supply shop (1" for filler pipe 15mm for air return pipe) reconnect and refit to car... Easy peesy..
No dropping tank or subframe or dismantling of the rear suspension to do the job...

You used a rubber hose connector from a fish pond supply shop? I hate to break the news, but you have use rubber
hose manufactured for gasoline resistance. If you leave that hose in there, it will gradually decompose, and jam up your fuel injectors. If you're lucky, the fuel filter will get jammed up first.

This happens not too often but I would advice two things:
1. Do not fill up completely your tank until the pumps clicks off. This fills all the way up the vertical tube going to the tank and puts weight on the rubber section which will crack after a while. As you noticed, it's a big job to replace it, the rear subframe needs dropped
2. When filling at the pump, do not lean (or press down) on the pump nozzle with your body weight - this again pushes on the filler tube and puts stress on this rubber section
