AW50-42LE case sealant?

AW50-42LE case sealant?

So, I'm finally able to get back to reassembling this replacement trans for the wife's car, and I'm now questioning what is used to seal the case back together.

I know for the solenoid/valvebody cover, Aisin AB1281B is used, but what about the rest? What came off kind of looked like the "pink stuff" used on the engine mating surfaces. Is that correct?

Permatex 81180 RTV Gasket maker.

Don't over do it like a lot of people do. It is for filling the imperfections not glueing the case together.

So, not the 51813 anaerobic stuff? The 81180 is listed for "transmissions", but I've seen the 51813, or Volvo pink stuff mentioned.

The stuff on the current case looks like the Volvo pink stuff, and not RTV.

I used the pink stuff when i repaired my aw55-50 tranny. Not a drop of leakiing oil in 10 years so far 😁

Any other thoughts?

I got busy over the rest of the weekend and didn't get back to working on this, but I'm wanting to get moving forward on it.

I have some of the Permatex anaerobic stuff(51813) on-hand (from when I did work on our engines), so I may just use that and move on.

That stuff will probably work as well, I just want to minimize any problems having to redo it all. Therefore I use the pink stuff for both motor and transmission. Good luck!

It was the concern about the compatibility with ATF, but that may not be an issue in the "case" of sealing the trans case.
I know there is more chance of contact with the "pan" cover, and there is a special Aisin RTV for that (which is probably what the Permatex 81180 is similar to)

Just trying to get some input from folks who have done it, but it doesn't sound like many around here have. It's not something I want to have to do twice. ;)

I used a cork gasket for the transmission valve body cover.
