2001 V70t Transmission Question
2001 V70t Transmission Question
I have a 2001 V70t with 92000 miles. I purchased it from a local Volvo Dealer. Before delivery they serviced the car and took care of the latest transmission recall, so I think the software is up to date. Occasionally (like maybe once a week) it seems to go into neutral when driving. It is mostly after acceleration and often on turns. The car will free rev and then when i back off the gas ig sort of bangs back onto gear and then is fine for a week or more. Also once in stop and go traffic it seemed to slip in and out of drive several times. I have checked the fluid and had my local Volvo only repair garage replace the fluid (yes they used the correct fluid). It still looks a bit dirty. Should I flush it again? I have searched for others with similar porblems and found little. Any help or ideas will be appreciated

JRL knows more about the '01's that me so hopefully he will log in and give you a good answer, but to me it sounds like the ETM (despite the software download) is having issues and you should have it checked by the dealer again. If it is truly the ETM, they will change it out for free as it is under an extended warranty.

Dave, do not tell people it's an ETM problem, it's not, almost never is.mvalore wrote:I have a 2001 V70t with 92000 miles. I purchased it from a local Volvo Dealer. Sorry to tell you that it probably is the beginning of the end of your transmission.
If the fluid looks bad, flush again and check for the latest software.
The latest software was from late last spring.
When the fluid gets dirty quickly it means it's burnt and the clutch packs are going, but try one more time (flush with at least 16 quarts) and live with it until it finally dies, it will, sorry

Like I said, JRL knows more about the '01's than I do. This being the first year, there have been numerous posts on every Volvo forum about their transmissions. There's even some guys trying to get a class-action together. Good luck and heed JRL's advice on this.

I really appreciate the quick and helpful response! I will do a complete flush again today and give it another try. I will update in a couple of weeks. I really like the car overall but this may push me back to japanese cars. Mike
Completed flush per website instructions (thanks!) used 16 qts of AMSoil synthetic 3301 fluid. The stuff that came out looked much like chocolate milk. So far seems perfect. It has been more than a week with no slips bumps or anything strange. I sure hope this keeps up. Again thanks for all the help. Mike

3301 or 3309? I sure hope you used a JWS-3309 equivalent. Didn't know amsoil made one, but if they did, fine. If not, then you need to re-flush the system before it's damaged?
