Volvo MAP Connector 30658215

Post by truenorth »

I recently removed my XC70 intake manifold to replace the thermostat, everything went well except I couldn't re-attach the MAP connector back to the MAP sensor 8699339 (Denso 6G9N-9F479-AA) thinking that I broke the connector lock.

After going about the long way to replace the connector 30658215 which is a delicate job it turned out my connector wasn't broken. The root cause why I couldn't re-attach the connector is because at the base of the connector the silicon stopper expanded over time and it was preventing the connector to re-latch to the MAP sensor (even with considerable force applied). See pic 2.

If you run into similar situation like I did, a simpler solution (assuming you didn't break the connector tab) is to trim a little bit of silicon stopper inside the connector where the MAP sensor connector come in contact (Pic 3) with a sniper from the side. If it still doesn't work, you can remove the entire silicon stopper and trim further. I have included some pictures so you can see what I mean. Word of caution, this job is best if you have small hands and arms :D and I did it from the top of engine bay, otherwise you have to get at it from the bottom of engine bay.

My connector is broken, have ordered new housing but need to know how do you remove the pins to be able to insert them into the new housing?

Remove the white part and then use the pin release tool.

Then the terminal can be pulled straight out

Good luck

Thanks! I ordered a set of extraction tools, see if I can figure this out.

This was a very helpful post. I needed it to understand why my MAP sensor replacement wouldn't "take". Rather than disassemble and trim, I fixed it by using a toothpick to put a thin layer of plumbers silicon grease on the edge of th blue silicon piece. This allowed the sensor edge to work it's way over the boundary and seat.

Also found this post very helpful. To echo skousend, the grease idea worked! I have a 2009 XC70 and accessed the connector from underneath the engine bay. Applied a small bit of grease to the blue silicone piece and to the edge of the map sensor receptacle. The two snapped together on the first attempt with minimal force. I was about to go down the same route as OP replacing the connector but Im glad I stumbled upon this post first.
