Sound/Radio Issue

Post by usernam3 »

I have a 2006 Volvo S60 with a sound problem. Whenever I try to use the am/fm radio or CD player the sound will cut out, get muffled for a couple seconds before going back to normal, start playing in one single speaker like on one door, or most times it will just cut out completely for minutes which makes it impossible to use. I had a different ‘06 s60 with a similar problem, however, the problem was definitely the radio itself, whereas I’m not sure if the problem here is something related to the amp, radio, etc. (since the radio signal works just fine, it’s just the sound cutting out that’s the problem.) I don’t want to replace the radio if the problem is related to something else and will cost a lot more than just a new radio. Any advice?

As you see the problem with multiple sources, and multiple speakers, the issue appears to be within the head unit, or possibly an external amplifier (option under the passenger seat).

If the head unit lights stay on, then it is probably not an issue with power to the head unit, but you might want to check the fuses.
