Just an introduction

Post by 01_Nautic_V70 »

Hi all,

Just stopped by to introduce myself and my (new to me) 2008 XC90 V8. Just picked this up this week, so right now I'm sorting out what works well and what doesn't. So far I know it will need a brake job and the dark dark tint on the windows will be coming off. All in all, seems to be in good working order with a few cosmetic issues to address. If anyone has any tips on tint film removal, I'd appreciate hearing them. Is it as simple as peeling it off and cleaning the glass, or is there a trick to it?

It did throw a check engine light last night after I've driven it about 500 miles getting it home and test driving a bit. I've just reinstalled VIDA and dug out my DiCE tool, so I'll see what's up with it this evening.

Anyway, hello to everyone and I'm happy to be back here and in the Volvo family. I sold my 2001 V70 T5 (hence the username) about two years ago. Loved that car, though the transmission was a bit of a headache (rebuilt once, replaced 30,000 miles later, all documented on this forum). Managed to find a 1st Gen XC90 in the same color combo (Nautic blue with tan leather) and the V8 I've always been interested in. It apparently also has the Executive Package though that mostly seems to be a larger wheel package.

Welcome. Quite a few members on this site with V8s and a number of them are doing self-work so you'll find good resources here.

The 2008 brochure- https://personalizeyourvolvo.com/PDF_Br ... View_Misc/ will give you a better idea as to what makes an Executive.

If you can post mileage that'll give some of us a perspective as to where you might be regarding known maintenance items. Any history you might have for previous motor work will be helpful. When you get the vehicle read, feel free to post your codes if anything pops up that you're not familiar with.

V8s are a lot of fun to own but they can use some love around the 100k-150k mile marks.

This one is at 183,303 miles. Not much in the way of service records. Pulled the codes in ViDA.

The problems were P0420 and P0430. It was raining/snowing at the time. Cleared those and will continue to monitor. Interestingly it also has a code for Satellite radio antenna signal missing. I can see the bump on the roof, so I'm thinking a previous owner disconnected Sirius, perhaps to install this Bluetooth adapter (Edit: Just determined that's a Volvo Handsfree adapter accessory) stuck to the dash. I'd have to get into the console to figure that out and it's not a pressing issue at the moment.

Is there a "Getting to Stage 0" guide as there is/was for the V70/P2 cars?

(Edit: Also determined this car is Magic Blue Metallic. A color that should be on a 3.2. Seems customer ordered. Has the Climate Package, Executive Package, Convenience Package, and I believe the Versatility Package. Someone optioned this thing up quite a bit. Doesn't have the Navigation, Bi Xenons, Console Cooler or 12 speaker Dynaudio system)

Sat is an accessory, receiver lives in the back cargo area around lower right side. You should be able ot check connectivitiy visually.

If there's an oval control button by the vents on the dash, it may be the Volvo accessory (rebranded Motorola IHF1xxx). If you have this, press the center button when key is in POS I, you get a beep and a verbal response over the front speakers, the system is probably working.

Thanks, yes that's the Bluetooth device indeed. I need to locate a manual to unpair old phones to it so I can pair. Otherwise working well.

I'll dig into the cargo area this weekend to see what's up with the antenna error.

Here ya go, short version menu is on page 43.

I have two of them (moved the one I had installed in the '05 over to the Ocean Race), they work great as a simple phone interface. Nothing fancy which is fine by me.

edit- add short version menu page.
