Maybe drill a hole ( 5-8mm ) off to the side in each drawer handle and drop a steel rod down through them. That would connect them all together and that alone might hold them in place. I wish there was a way for a NE group buy of some sort to get replacement parts from this part of the country over to you guys in the rust zone...

I would say " Yes ". That little o-ring needs to be replaced. Tad bit easier than splitting the block.
