I'm impressed that the SAS trouble code was the first one you've had on a 22 year old car -- super reliability!!
Could the lack of a chime at start up be due to a worn out electrical portion of the ignitiion switch?

Re: New 850. What stuff are a MUST to replace/repair if the maintenance history is unknown?
I haven't replaced a fuel pump, but I have replaced the timing belt components a couple times and replaced a couple of CV boots... My memory is that --for me at least-- those jobs were harder than most of the repair jobs I've done on the car over the years. I wouldn't recommend them as the first job...

'97 855 GLT: is there an easy way to fix a slow leak in AC at this junction?
Our car leaks about 100g of refrigerant per year. A few years ago I added a refrigerant to the system that contained a small amount of UV fluorescent dye. Yesterday under UV light I could see signs of a leak around the junction between the low side port (at upper left in image below) and the receive...

Re: Failed glove test
I have read that if the PTC port gets clogged up, then that can also cause the glove to inflate. If you haven't done it already, it might be a good idea to pull the PTC and check to see if it's clean.

I couldn't find a clear write up for the springs. There is a very helpful video by RobertDIY (http://robertdiy.com) that shows how to change the...

Re: Groaning/Whine from front right side of engine
Another possible source of the groaning sound can be the oil thermostat near the oil filter. It makes a strange moaning/whistling noise when the engine oil is cold and goes away when the oil is fully warmed up.

I would refer to this thread from 2012, with the description by Ozark Lee

Quick Sunday Afternoon Tool Tip for tightening hose clamps on turbo outlet hose 31261370
Just a quick Sunday afternoon tip to report on a good tool combination that helped fix a small problem: A 1/4" drive miniature breaker bar with a 7mm socket is slim enough to fit into the tiny space around the turbo outlet hose. It makes it easier (though not easy for me at any rate) to tighten...
