I'd imagine any car that uses an M56 would have one, which means even Ford-era stuff (P1s and P3s) should have it. Might be a different part number for those cars.

How do you check the oil level?
The most accurate reading will be after the car sits overnight,on a flat surface and before starting the engine...of course.

I don't think oil viscosity is the issue. I would not rely on estimating a 100 ml (3 oz.) loss by the dipstick.
