Re: How many miles are on your Volvo(s)?
Just shy of 313k miles on my 2004 XC70. Re-Volv catted downpipe, deleted stock S60R catback and tune by IPD. Daily, I am amazed at the power this 18 year old, practical, relatively unattractive, beige station wagon still has! By the way, it’s not as loud as it seems on camera. The only time I hear t...

Re: Front Sway Bar Moving
Hey Stu. The clunking on my VR drove me nuts. So much I replaced everything until I finally figured it out, much the same as you recently have. I was able to simply replace the sway bar bushings on my upsized sway bar (without even touching any of the fasteners which hold the subframe to the main fr...

Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?
I agree, there’s unfortunately a lot of wasting of money running non-oxy in a modern fuel injected car (that gets driven regularly). I could see keeping non-oxy in it if the car was going to be in a climate controlled storage for an unknown amount of time. I say that because if you are storing somet...

Re: Do I need to fill VVT solenoid with oil?
Once you have the VVT solenoid torqued back on (w/new gasket that has screen) 1. turn the engine over manually (with oil in crankcase) to circulate oil, or 2. before firing, you can crank the engine (using the starter) with the ignition coils disconnected or fuse removed. That’ll get oil up there.

P2 sunroof stuck open; how to manually close it
Hello all, Naturally, this will happen just before forecasted precipitation. If you don’t have time to fix it properly (which most often is to replace/repair the siren/alarm module), or simply don’t care if the sunroof is operational & just need it closed, here is how to do it manually. Remove p...

Re: Right rear under car clanging noise
Sounds like your zeroing in on it. Where exactly are you detecting this play? There is a hanger/carrier bearing about halfway between the ends of the driveshaft. It has rubber isolation surrounding it & it is normal to be able to move the driveshaft (some) up, down and side to side with the flex...

Re: Chasing a P0014 (and maybe my tail?) on a 2001 V70XC
It was a combination of timing being just slightly off and (what I believe to have been) a flaky and/or gunked/sludged up exhaust VVT solenoid. What’s weird is that after I’d cleaned it as best I could (2001’s had what they call a “non-serviceable” VVT solenoid that didn’t come apart), the bench tes...

Re: 2005 xc-70 slowly decreasing oil pressure
I took a vanity shot just prior to crossing the 300K border, turned out kinda cool :) (this is more current, and not as cool). I’ll see if I can find it. Oh, are you getting the “NO OIL PSI, STOP IMMEDIATELY” message in the DIM or the red oil psi light? If the former, I would heed all notions & ...

Re: 04 V70; Brake lights don’t work, position lights stay on with ignition off
Well I found some crispy wires finally. Didn’t occur to me that I’d have to look up into the sheathing where they are completely protected to find where they’d gotten hot to the point they then became crispy. I tried to upload a video but was unsuccessful. Here’s a few photos. Would it be simplest t...

Re: Solved! 04 V70; Brake lights don’t work, position lights stay on with ignition off
In conclusion, replacing the entire rear harness was surely the way to go. I sourced one from a local pick & pull yard for about $47 USD. As I was installing it I also wrapped all exposed portions of it with high temp electrical cloth tape (thanks for the suggestion by Vova). Aside from pouring ...
