Since you have a '98 with the M4.4 ECU, VAST Tuning would be your go-to for ECU/tuning questions. All of the work is done within the confines of the stock ECU and code.

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
My gasket was for a HPT so maybe there is a difference between HPT and LPT? Perhaps. I can't say as my car is an HPT, hers is an LPT and both have angle-flanged 16Ts going to 3" downpipes, so... (Again, not factory builds). If you have a minor leak at the turbo outlet to the exhaust, the gaske...

Almost made a mistake swapping dashes (ECC vs MCC)
On the wife's GLT, the dash we had installed 7 years ago was starting to look like it was going through the "blip" and disappearing. I sourced a new dash for it and had forgotten about the fact that the donor I had pulled it from was a MCC car. I had this revelation after I had set the new...

Re: Seeking swarm knowledge as I do my M56 swap 97 855 R
I wouldn't worry with it. If you're worried about old ATF seeping, just flush the coils out with brake cleaner or what have you and run it. I did that on my manual swap in the T5 and then when I needed to replace the radiator, I just got one for a manual car. When I did the swap, I also swapped an R...

850 steering rack teardown and rebuild
So, I've been chasing around a rattle in my 850's passenger front corner and a few months back, after going through EVERYTHING on the front of the car, I narrowed the noise down to the rack itself. Specifically, it sounds like the rack is a little loose in the housing plug (The big white plastic pie...

Re: 850 steering rack teardown and rebuild
A little heat helped to dislodge the lower seal.

Working up a plan on those pinion drum seals. Gotta CAD up something first.

Re: 850 steering rack teardown and rebuild
So, I printed up this little taper tool to install those seals, with minimal stretching. https://turbochuckcom.ipage.com/webimages/projects/97%20Volvo%20854T5/2024/Steering/Rack%20Rebuild/rackteardown_5.jpg When I get the extra seals, I'll give this a go. What I'll do is wrap some electrical tape ar...

Re: 99 S70 GLT Engine B5254T
Ok so I have eliminated the fuel pump--- Not necessarily. If you're not monitoring FP while driving, you really haven't ruled it out. It could idle for hours and not skip a beat. It's a PITA, but you need to see what it does when the engine acts up. It was also mentioned to investigate the electron...

Re: 99 S70 GLT Engine B5254T
I picked up one of EVAP, smoke testers off Amazon a few years back. They're $60-100. You need to have an pressurized air source, as the "machine" just makes the smoke.
Has come in handy several times, but we own 8 cars, so lost more places to use it.

Re: 850 steering rack teardown and rebuild
OK the extra seals arrived, but I have been busy with things this past week and have very little time to spend on this. I prepped for installing the new seals. https://turbochuckcom.ipage.com/webimages/projects/97%20Volvo%20854T5/2024/Steering/Rack%20Rebuild/sealinstall_1.jpg They all installed pret...
