Re: Gunk in the oil dipstick tube
If there is any water/ coolant in the oil it will also show up on the underside of the oil cap as a off white crud. Your mechanic could do a combustion gas test to the cooling system to properly rule out a head gasket leak. Because if it has a slight problem now it may avoid a all out failure potent...

Re: New England Winter for a Desert Volvo?
Dave in Maine is correct. I had all but forgot about snowshuvels and ice scrapers! Also whatever car you use during the winter it is important to always keep the fuel tank topped off full when storms are expected and not below 2/3 all winter. If you get stuck and need the heater during a storm you w...

I found the cure for stiff dry Volvo leather!
This year my driver side leather seat skins were replaced due to being torn. My leather looked great all these years using Armor All. Well the new genuine Volvo skins are softer than the rest which are 15 years old. Lexol is crap as well as everything sold in stores for leather as far as my hardenin...

Re: I found the cure for stiff dry Volvo leather!!!
This is Wednesday day four after applying the leather oil. I applied three heavy coats on last Saturday on all the original leather. The seats are amazingly softer and the product gives a light scent of new leather. Seats are long dry as all the oil was absorbed on Sunday. Today the car sat in the m...

Re: volvo airbag delete
If it's a danger to other drivers, it's different and maybe they need a fine point on it. You're overlooking the danger to the person in the passenger seat who'll not have the safety of the passenger airbag. These cars are designed safety wise to have functional airbags. So a girlfriend, sibling, b...

Re: Dealer oil change vs chain oil change
I would NEVER allow a Jiffy lube to change my oil. You want someone who specializes in European cars. The dealer or a reputable shop. Stay away from chains as 1st off you cant trust they actually changed the oil, or really put synthetic oil in. Also they will try to sell you things like coolant flus...

Re: Motul oil doesn't burn
I wish FCPEuro stocked redline motor oil. I'd be willing to try just for warranty returns. The price of this oil makes that policy worth the extra trouble shipping it. So far all I see is Motul 300V but their site says its racing oil and not good for daily driving. I buy mine on Amazon, free shippi...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)
Have you tried to rotate the engine by hand. Could be a bad spot on the flywheel? Or bad bendix on the starter? From the sound I am assuming the engine is not rotating. Ford cars were famous for this 40 years ago. Sometimes by engaging (bumping) the starter for a split second several times quickly w...

Re: 1999 s80 t6 preventive maintenance/common problems to watch for
It is the XC90 T6 AWD apparently that have the high failure rate transmission wise. Change the engine oil often!! Your car has two turbo chargers which puts the oil to the test. Really the same trouble as any other P2 car suspension or body wise and like all 99 Volvo cars etm problems potentially. B...

Re: I found the cure for stiff dry Volvo leather!
Update: For weeks the oil worked below the surface as the the leather became softer to the touch. I decided to reapply today. So I took a picture of the dark looking cracks that appear while the leather is wet with the product. When absorbed they disappear and the leather looks great. I can't get ov...
